Description |
The mission of Latinx Outdoor Connections (LOC) is to increase access to regional outdoor spaces and a sense of belonging in nature for Latinx-identifying youth while building supportive developmental relationships and lifelong social-emotional skills. LOC programs change season to season. They include activities and games for children at local parks, day-long outdoor trips, and half-day trips in town. This program is run by staff who are representative of the Latinx community and can deliver a culturally-relevant curriculum. |
Educational Aspect |
Latinx Outdoor Connections Outdoor Leader is someone who identifies as Latina/o/x. The Internship program is designed to give the intern practical work experience as a youth leader while receiving mentorship by staff. Interns are invaluable members of our team who are role models, motivators, educators, caregivers, and also spark champions. The intern is expected to help facilitate a safe, fun, and confidence-building summer for all participants. This internship will include opportunities to develop skills in and practice intentional youth development, building meaningful relationships, managing risk in outdoor settings, and generally contributing to shared responsibilities of running an outdoor program. We strive to create an environment where all youth and staff have a sense of belonging, opportunities to share passions and a place to thrive. The main outdoor activities will include indoor rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, games, team building initiatives, and others. You will be able to build skills and gain valuable experience in: - Supervision
- Teaching
- Mentorship
- Leadership
- Communication
- Activity preparation
- Group management
- Planning and organizing
