Description

SummerKids is a weekly theme-based day camp for youth in Kindergarten through the 6th Grade. The camp is typically hosted at a Bend elementary school (TBD) and can have up to 100 or more youth each week, separated into individual groups of 8-12 kids of a similar age. The camp runs from 9 am-3:30 pm, with extended care options beginning as early as 7:15 am and ending by 5:30 pm.

Educational Aspect

Together with the Kindergarten Lead Counselor, the Assistant will build community, lead games and activities, and manage physical and emotional safety for a group of 10-12 kindergarteners. The assistant will get direct mentorship from the Lead to learn how to create age-appropriate schedules, establish consistent routines, and adapt the themed curriculum to fit the maturity level of their group. Goal setting, feedback, and reflection will be integrated into the commitment with coaching and guidance from their Lead. The Assistant will also be trained in Camp Fire’s “Thriveology” Framework, including the development of growth mindset, goal setting, and the importance of developmental relationships, as well as how to create an inclusive community, develop youth-driven programming, and encourage equitable participation. The Assistant will have access to the Camp Fire Learning Lab, an educational resource created and shared by Camp Fire National, with over 25 hours of online courses directly related to the delivery and implementation of quality youth development programs.
