Description

At Camp Tamarack we host overnight outdoor school, summer camp, and classroom programs. We’re looking for a Kitchen Assistant to join us for our 2022 season. We are accepting applications until the position is filled!

 

In accordance with Oregon Department of Education policy, Camp Tamarack requires staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to work with students.

Dates:

We are hiring staff who can commit to our entire April- the end of October position! Please note that there are breaks in between sessions.

2022 Season Dates:

- Spring Outdoor School:  April 4th - June 10th
- Summer Camp: June 27th - August 26th (optional August 28th- August 31st)
- Fall Outdoor School: September 7th - October 28th
- Winter Classroom Outreach: Potential for part-time work January - March

 

Weekly Salary: 

For Staff who live on-site, starting pay is $600, room and board included (no charge to staff for rent, utilities, laundry, internet, and meals while running programming Sunday Dinner- Friday Breakfast). For Staff who choose not to live on-site, starting pay is $720.

 

Job Description: 

- Communicate in an inclusive, collaborative, appropriate manner for our children’s camp setting.

- Desire to work as a part of a team. To share the kitchen workload fairly and work towards a common goal.

- Plan, prepare and cook nutritious menus that are friendly to staff and all program participants.

- Prepare and cook meals that support requested dietary needs and or food allergies such as vegetarian, gluten-free, and lactose-free diets, and severe allergies.

- Manage a small team of the kitchen staff.

- Wash all dishes used in the preparation of meals as well as dishes used during meal service.

- Maintain the coffee station, tea, and all meal facilities within the lodge.

- Maintain overall cleanliness of main lodge & kitchen area.

- Maintain Food Handler's Certificate food handling standards in kitchen, refrigerators, and pantries. 

- Clean kitchen, refrigerators, and pantries at the end of each program week. 

- Responsible for washing kitchen laundry.

- Employment is temporary and subject to school participation schedule. This position works in a residential camp setting.

- Extended hours and occasional weekends may be required. 

- Physical Demands: 5% Sitting, 75% Standing, 20% Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling Pounds 5 - 80 lbs.

- Employment is temporary and subject to school/ camper participation schedule. This position works in an overnight camp setting.

- If staff choose to live on-site, they live in shared staff quarters.

- Housing and meals are provided. Housing is shared with other employees in assigned cabins or bunk rooms.

- Room and board provided- this includes rent, utilities, laundry, internet, meals while running programming Sunday dinner- Friday breakfast.

Educational Aspect

As a Kitchen Assistant at Camp Tamarack, Interns will learn the ins and outs of a fast-paced and dynamic kitchen environment. Interns will assist in meal planning, preparation, and clean-up for groups of 200 or more. Managed by our Kitchen Manager, all kitchen staff share the responsibilities of meal preparation and clean-up to support everyone's overall workload.
