Description |
The SummerKids Junior Counselor(JC) Internship is the last step before a potential paid position as a SummerKids Counselor. The internship is designed to give teens practical work experience while exploring their leadership styles. They will record hours, be responsive to emails, and learn how to be professional in the workplace. Teens will learn resume-building skills as well as go through an interview process with Youth CareerConnect as part of the internship process. JC's will act as role models for younger campers, while still enjoying the fun traditions, songs, and games of summer camp. The program lasts for three weeks in total: - 1 week of training July 5th-8th and subsequent training.
- 2 full weeks (5 consecutive days each) of service to SummerKids (service weeks are flexible and chosen by the participant at the start of training).
- Potential for 2 weeks of paid internship. |
Educational Aspect |
During the practicum weeks, interns will put what they have learned in training into practice as an assistant to a SummerKids group counselor. They will have daily check-ins with their supervisor, receive constructive feedback on their performance, and have an opportunity to process their challenges and share their successes with their supervisor and peers. Upon successful completion of the program, JC’s will have a formal record of their internship hours, as well as a professional reference to use in applying for jobs. |
