Description
Park Maintenence: 
Regularly performs routine and preventative maintenance for district parks; duties include but are not limited to:
a) Maintaining landscapes, turf, shrubs, trees, and flowerbeds
b) Safety inspections of park areas, facilities, and equipment
c) Improvements in existing parks
d) Prepares fields for softball and soccer league and tournament play
e) Interior and exterior building maintenance and janitorial tasks, including cleaning facilities
f)  Repairs irrigation systems
g) Repair and maintenance of other park district equipment
h) Operates mowers and other park maintenance tools
 
Customer Service:
Assists the general public with park-related questions with a friendly, helpful demeanor. Effectively handle citizen complaints and inquiries.
 
Other Job Duties:
Completes special projects and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, or Board of Directors of Redmond Area Park and Recreation District to meet team, department, and District goals while actively demonstrating accountability and responsibility for achieving desired outcomes and measurable results.
 
Contributes to a successful work group and fosters a team-oriented culture through positive interactions, active listening, meaningful collaborations, and constructive exchange of ideas designed to meet or exceed the District’s strategic goals.
 
Educational Aspect
The intern will learn the following core competencies and skills:

Setting goals and objectives; establishing priorities.
 
Organization and Multitasking:
Organizes and schedules time in an efficient and productive manner; effectively handles many different tasks at the same time.
 
Independent Thinking & Problem Solving: 
Able to work independently using problem-solving skills to determine proper procedures. Learning how to communicate information to people who are unfamiliar with technical recreation terms; cooperation within the organization.
 
Analysis Skills:
Identifies significant challenges and opportunities; can pinpoint the fault by using a process of elimination among other resources.
 
Verbal Communications:
Is understood by others; can effectively communicate program and facility information rules, regulations, and policies to the public and other staff as needed.
 
Further Requirements
Required Experience: 
One year experience in park maintenance services preferred; high school diploma or equivalent; possession of valid Oregon driver’s license; possession of CPR/PR certificate and Advanced First Aid certificate issued by American Red Cross.
 
Education/Industry Exposure:
Knowledge of landscaping, irrigation, field preparation, and playground safety; ability to drive and operate vehicles, equipment, machinery, and tools safely.
 
Working Conditions:
Outdoor/park environment; position functions may require physical condition necessary for moving 50 lbs. as well as performing duties listed above; moving and positioning self quickly during emergency operations; moving inside and outside of the facility and/or remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
 
Primary Responsibilities: 
90% Park Maintenance and 10% Customer Service.
 
Lift Requirements
Able to move/lift 50 lbs.
