Description
Substitute Teacher Aid I/II Summary: 
Provide an appropriate environment, nurturing, supervision, and guidance that fosters positive development for children.  
Experience: 
Six months of related experience preferred.
Skills: 
Good communication skills, written and oral.  Good interpersonal development.  Understanding of basic child development concepts.  Understanding of developmentally appropriate practice.
Responsibilities: 
- Maintain the safety of children through appropriate supervision, keeping children in your line of sight at all times. 
- Respond appropriately to children's individual needs.  Interact with children to help them learn. 
- Observe, document, and report any signs of child abuse or neglect. 
- Protect and enhance the health and safety of all children. 
- Share important information with families about a child's well-being. 
- Maintain daily observation, attendance &USDA records. 
- Work with children 6 weeks through 12 years of age. 
- Report to Substitute Coordinator or in their absence, any other supervisor. 
- Share important information with families about a child's well-being. 
- Support family involvement in the program. 
- Ensure that you and the children wash hands before eating, after using restrooms, after coming in from outside, etc.; disinfect counters and tabletops before and after mealtimes. 
- Maintain confidentiality. 
Supervision required: 
Teacher Aide I is under the direction of the Substitute Coordinator
Working conditions: 
Classroom environment.    
Successful performance requirements: 
- Assure a safe, clean, healthy, and positive classroom environment conducive to the growth and development of children.  
- Actively support family involvement in the program.
- Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
- Ensure mealtime is a positive social experience for all children, follow appropriate mealtime procedures.
- Use positive techniques to guide children's behavior
- Ensure that children generally interact with each other in positive ways.
Job Duties:
1. Implement and follow daily schedules, lesson plans, and activities.
2. Interact with children to help them learn.
3. Supervise children's activities.
4. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
5. Perform comparable duties of a similar or related nature and assist in other areas where staffing shortages exist. 
 
Educational Aspect
Teacher Aides will learn: how a classroom operates, safe guidance for young children, and positive care for children.  Communication skills will develop as aides communicate with children and with families of the children, as well as with the supervising teachers.
 
Further Requirements
Special Requirements: 
Good to excellent physical condition. 
Must have First Aid and CPR certification within 90 days of hire. 
 
Lift Requirements
Able to lift children up to 50 pounds.
