Description

Learn while you earn, and be part of the founding student group for the first region-wide digital news publication.
Future Journalists of America is an innovative two-year program that embeds high school students in newsrooms where they will learn media literacy and journalism skills, report community news and become adept at modern techniques to operate a sustainable digital publication.
Each session at the newspaper will consist of short lessons, hands-on training, and news publication production.

Educational Aspect

This opportunity will be taught by professional reporters, editors, broadcasters, and University of Oregon professors.
Students will learn journalism ethics, the relevance of reality-based reporting, and the journalism craft - from basic skills to solutions journalism.
Lessons on running a digital publication will focus on marketing, audience engagement, and data science.
While the students are learning about journalism, they will also be applying their knowledge by producing a district-wide digital publication facilitated by the non-profit.
Pre-session videos and activities will be assigned each week.
