DISCLAIMER: This position is contingent upon available funding. 

Are you interested in gaining leadership skills and working in the public health field? In partnership with the La Pine Park and Recreation District, Deschutes County Health Services is seeking a La Pine High School student to serve as a Community Health Advocate. This person will provide community members and organizations with youth perspectives concerning substance abuse prevention. The Community Health Advocate will work alongside a diverse group of community members to reduce underage substance use, focusing on the City of La Pine. This position will work remotely until further notice.
 

Position Responsibilities:

- 5-8 hours per week (flexible hours) from July 1st through Dec 1st

- Attend weekly virtual check-ins with DCHS supervisor

- Participate in at least 80% of La Pine Prevention Committee monthly meetings

- Public speaking; speak directly to youth, community partners, and local public officials

- Collaborate with youth and community members on projects pertaining to mental health and substance use prevention

 

Qualifications:

- Current La Pine High School student, incoming 11th/12th grade preferred

- Interest in promoting health and well-being

- Leadership skills preferred but not required

- Ability to work remotely
