Description |
Wallace Group, Inc., is a geo-environmental consulting and construction inspection/testing firm based in Bend, Oregon. The practice conducts laboratory tests on a variety of soil, rock, and construction materials in accordance with ASTM standards in support of our geotechnical and construction service groups. We maintain the American Association of Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) certification which meets our strict quality standards for geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing. The Laboratory Intern position for 2021 will train under Wallace Group’s Laboratory Manager and follow guidelines and procedures for soil/rock analysis and material strength testing. Interns will gain hands-on experience testing native soil, rock, fill materials, concrete, grout, and masonry specimens and will enter data in Microsoft Excel. Lab testing will also include gradational sieve analyses and establish maximum density-optimum moisture curves for use in field compaction testing. The Lab Intern will also utilize industry-standard software (Geosystems) for geotechnical soil analysis. |
Educational Aspect |
This intern position will learn the fundamentals of soil mechanics and common tests associated with construction materials testing. Interns will be exposed to elements of geotechnical field exploration, foundation engineering, and the different phases of construction, and work with geologists, engineers, and special inspectors for a real-world engineering and construction learning experience. |
Further Requirements |
The position is fast-paced and requires the ability to prioritize and multitask while maintaining attention to detail. |
Lift Requirements |
The position requires the intern to have a medium level of physicality to work on their feet with some moderate to heavy lifting (up to 40 lbs.) for soil/aggregate/concrete specimens. |
